I am Assistant Professor of the Practice of Statistical Science and QuadEx Faculty Fellow at Duke University. Prior to my faculty appointment at Duke, I earned a PhD in biostatistics under Jason Fine and Shanshan Zhao, with whom I worked on developing effect sizes for mediation analysis in complex data settings. My applied research collaborations broadly deal with health outcomes research in gastroenterology and hepatology, and as part of this work I am also a Research Collaborator with the Center for Gastrointestinal Biology and Disease at UNC Chapel Hill.
I have a deep passion for statistical education and promotion of statistical and quantitative literacy and am the 2021-2022 recipient of the student-nominated, student-selected Alumni Distinguished Undergraduate Teaching Award. Specific pedagogical interests include incorporating undergraduate students in applied statistical research projects and formal teaching of the peer review process.
In my free time I enjoy playing the piano and viola, running, and backpacking; the photo in my website header was taken at sunrise somewhere on a ridge in the White Mountains in New Hampshire.
